Re: [RC] Looking for a kid safe endurance prospect - rides2far@xxxxxxxx

I have never seen a request for a sane, well trained, safe for a kid horse
where the writer is willing to spend more than about $1,000. Why is that?

I'd say it's often because to the parents of that kid a horse is not a huge
priority and $1000 is a lot for a toy that requires upkeep. When you recruit
your kid's friend, get them riding your horses, then convince the parents to
*consider* getting the kid a horse you do well to get them to commit to
$1,000...then you just deal with what you can afford. Somebody may have a
*safe* horse that rides like a pogo stick or a jackhammer but is sound. Kid
won't even know how bad it is. Everybody is happy. :-) Nobody makes you sell
your good horse to them just because they asked, so what's the harm in asking?

I sold a totally sound, totally safe 9 year old Arab gelding to my neighbor who
was my junior for the next several years and 1000 miles. I got $1200 because I
figured that's what her family would pay. It was worth something to me to see
him being used by a kid who loved to ride instead of being paid a lot by some
parent who had a spoiled brat who would lose interest in the horse in a week.
(He also rode like a cart with egg shaped wheels) >g<

If the law of supply and demand really determined price, there would be no
expensive unbroke high bred Arabs, and a truly kid broke, dependable 50" tall
pony would cost more than a Hummer.
