Re: [RC] Looking for a kid safe endurance prospect - vccfarmsMy thoughts exactly. My 9 year old daughter has a 13 yr old arab that has done endurance, parade, local gymkhanas and rail classes. Got her for ONLY $2500 would not sell her for $10,000. You find one like her and she's worth her weight in gold. Also in the pasture she is the the first one to come up and meet us .Mark -----Original Message----- From: oaklawnarabians@xxxxxxxxx To: ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tue, 2 Dec 2008 12:18 pm Subject: Re: [RC] Looking for a kid safe endurance prospect I thought the same thing at the time this came through. We paid 3,500 dollars for a 16 year old mare who was kid safe and that was the best money I ever spent on a horse. I would have spent more on her knowing what I know now. Just getting to reading some older posts and I want to respond to this one. I have never seen a request for a sane, well trained, safe for a kid horse where the writer is willing to spend more than about $1,000. Why is that? Clearly they know such horses aren't easy to find (why else are THEY advertising for one?). And yet they seem to think that the owners of such caring animals ought to be literally giving them away. I doubt they would expect people to sell a top show horse for $1000, or a consistent Top Ten horse for $1000. So why should they so undervalue that extremely rare quality in a horse, the quality of being a true Care Taker? We all know horses that when you put a beginner on them, they go where they please, stop to eat grass and refuse to move on, turn and head (run?) back to the barn. How many do you know that react to beginners (adult OR child) by thinking, "This is someone that I need to take care of"? I don't mean horses so old they CAN'T be obnoxious, but rather good, fit horses that CHOOSE to be careful with their "precious cargoes". And here this ad ALSO wants this horse to be a kid safe endurance prospect! A Care Taker AND and an Endurance horse? In one package? For only $1000? What can people who make these requests be thinking? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
