It's along the same lines as when flying, and the oxygen masks drop, don't put one on your kid first, put your own on first. Whether in a plane or on a horse, YOU are the thinking one and you need to be in the best shape you can be. Don't think of it as you before the horse; think of it as you being PART of what is good for the horse.
