[RC] clover and scratches - Lynn White

From all that I have read, only the variety of clover known as Alsike Clover
causes problems in horses. Alsike clover causes photosensitivity and is
likely also a cause for some liver problems if injested in quatities larger
than 5%. There are a whole host of websites on this variety: Just Google it.
It's an easy clover to identify. Basically, look at the leaf of the clover.
If you have a white/pink flower and no "V" on the leaf you may have this
variety.

I have a perlino colt with white socks in a field of grass/clover and he has
had NO problems. He's out in the sun all day. The only thing I do is put a
fly mask on him to cut down on the glare from the pink skin around his eyes.

I am quite concerned however that the alkaline soil at the Oreana rides may
post a problem on him. But for now, I am happy to have him get a nice balanced
diet of clover and grass to grow on.
