The population that the completition statistics was drawn from is not very homogeneous. There are many important criteria for selection and completion. This is quite different from Truman's example of a company producing a large number of widgets on an automated production line. There the whole production is very carefully controlled so small differences are significant. Endurance riding has many uncontrolled variables, as a result one has to be very careful that Murphy does not use this to encourage you to make poor decisions based on what appears to be good statistics. I guess my feeling is: Do the statistics, but be very careful and cautious in the interpretation. Murphy is alive, well, and has followed me around all of my life.
