RE: [RC] Disappearing 100's & Race of Champions - Ranelle Rubin
..and oh Susan could make it happen! The one ROC I had the pleasure of attending was in Montana..I went with Hal and Ann Hall..Not sure the year, but Naomi can tell you, as she was there riding Mustang Lady. They set up a virtual CITY in a huge mountain meadow..we are talking a semi with showers, and a huge mess hall set up by the National Guard (?)..not sure if it was that branch of the military or not, but they used it as a training exercise from what I heard. 3 meals a day..a sack lunch for out on the trail...it was so very cool.
I remember it was done as a benefit for EagleMount..I believe a kids therapeutic riding program?

Just to echo what Cindy said about the Race of
Champions. It's what got me to start doing 100's in the late
80's. I remember LOTS of riders doing 100's just so they
could qualify for the ROC. And yes, I'm sure it cost a TON of
money, but Susan was also great at getting BIG sponsors. Like a horse
trailer as an award for 1st place (won by Becky & Rio). The
entry fee wasn't cheap either......but people were willing to pay it,
because it was a GREAT event. With the right marketing strategy
and people, maybe AERC could replicate it someday. All it takes are
some BIG sponsors!
