Hmm, too bad this happened. I was really hoping that the new record set last
month would be unblemished. This incident occurred a while ago. But I wonder if
there is a pattern developing? Also interesting, if you follow Leonard's link
(http://www.fei.org/Athletes_AND_Horses/Medication_Control_AND_Antidoping/Horses/Pages/Decisions.aspx),
look at the first USA Horse (Docs Peppy San Two). In this case, the horse and
rider/owner participated in a CRI 1* not a CH-EU-Open-*E ride. His horse tested
positive for Phenylbutazone (Bute) also a Class A infraction. Yet, the
rider/owner was disqualified, stripped of any medals, required to forfeit any
prize money, suspended for 4 months, fined CHF 500 (Swiss francs?), ordered
to pay CHF 1,000 in legal costs.
Now we don't know all the facts and details of this latest case. Perhaps
in time we will. But hopefully, the sanctions would be at least the same, if not
more severe, because of the significance of the event in which it occurred.
If not, I would have to agree with those that say something is not right
here.
