Once a vet is sued, the control of the situation goes to his insurance company and their lawyers. They (insurance lawyers) always want to settle and pretty much will insist on doing so. That is what happened in this case. In my opinion, the AERC could not have prevented the lawsuit, but they "should" support ride managers who banned the rider and they "should" consider their own sanctions of riders who sue vets or ride management. I agree it was wrong, wrong, wrong that the rider sued the ride vet, btw. I never heard any outcome - did the plaintiff "win?"
