I, like Steph, stumbled on to the breed by
accident. I had had a couple of horses that I tried after I retired my
Anglo-Arab gelding but none of them were the same. I had just about given up on
finding what I had before when Mom saw on our Ct. reg listserve a Hungarian mare
(her dam is 1/2 Shagya and 1/2 Arab and her sire is Hungarian) for sale in
Kansas. I had never heard of the breed so had not really given the email
any thought. Mom however looked at the picture and talked to a friend who had
gone and looked at the mare a month or so before. Mom really liked the way
she looked and said there was just something about her that caught her eye. So
we emailed the owner a couple of times and we decided to go ahead and drive up
to look at her. When we both saw Perle for the first time we both said she
looks exactly like my old horse. And more than that she had the same type
personality. We just clicked from the start. I've had her almost 3 years now and
I wouldn't trade her for anything in the world. She and I just click, even
though she and mom don't exactly LOL. Now if I can get her arrhythmia figured
out we will back to doing what we both love and I won't have to ride my "Gumby"
Egyptian arab. I have such different experiences riding the two of them. On
Perle I feel like I am riding something solid and confident and stable, with
Deke I feel like I am riding a blade of grass that will blow over with the
slightest wind.
