Re: [RC] why I don't love trail riding - Lynne GlazerShoot, I tore ligaments in each hand on the pommel of my English endurance saddle, so no way on a horn for me. I am way too clumsy. It's why I wear a helmet too, just don't duck low enough sometimes. The right thumb was when I dropped a rein as we were yahooing through a group of rocks on a Norco training ride that were a frequent-flyer zone, and my mare suddenly braked as I picked it up, it did the splits. The other was between last two fingers on the left hand, when we were leading a group of riders across a meadow at the Cuyama XP she spooked at some major hidden rusted trail trash, I was giving her a half halt at the time in anticipation that she was gonna object to the sight of it. No problem finishing with the aid of vetrap. And those happened within a couple of months of each other, so I was pretty lame at fitting RP saddles and zipping up my tight jeans during that time. Carmi if you see this DON'T WRITE BACK as she has a particularly embarassing story from the AERC convention that year. What I learned is that ligament injuries take forever to heal and those were not weight bearing--it gave me a new understanding of horse rehab for tendon/ligament issues. That's why I don't like saddle horns myself. (broke my hand on one once). But then, I don't really need one as I don't do any roping, etc. =) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
