RE: [RC] why I don't love trail riding - Kitley, Carrie E Civ USAF AFSPC 30 MDSS/SGSLFHoly guacamole, Lynne!! That's why I don't like saddle horns myself. (broke my hand on one once). But then, I don't really need one as I don't do any roping, etc. =) Carrie Kitley 30th Medical Group, Vandenberg AFB DMLSS?Database Sustainment Specialist (DSS) CACI?International Inc? www.caci.com dsn?276-1077, Comm (805) 606-1077 fax dsn?276-1179 <\_~ // \\ carrie.kitley@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx? -----Original Message----- From: ridecamp-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ridecamp-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Lynne Glazer Sent: Monday, July 21, 2008 12:00 PM To: mike@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Cc: Ridecamp Subject: Re: [RC] why I don't love trail riding I remember it being the talk of the online fora back in the Usenet and CompuServe days: that was Malcom Baldridge, whose big belt/buckle got hooked over the horn. <http://politicalgraveyard.com/death/horse.html> Deaths of political people from horse-related injuries I love the Internet, warts and all. You could never get me on a horse as tall as Ash in the first place and I think that throwing you and your horses over jumps the way you do is the ultimate in lunatic risk taking. I'm in utter awe of people crazy enough to do that. LOL People get hurt far worse and far more often jumping than just falling off a horse on a trail...or do they? I don't really know. I DO know that as riders we take a chance every time we get on a horse and that this is the life that we've chosen for ourselves. Rather than looking at it as a "where" you ride issue, it's more productive to look at it as a "how" you ride issue. As Raven noted, for trail riding a mobile phone is a must and one with a gps in it is wonderful (not that most people even know how to use this feature...but it is really helpful). Knowing your horses and your terrain is also a must. But it sounds like this was just one of those freak things. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
