Re: [RC] [RC] [RC] [RC] [RC] GPS Units - April

I've had a Legend HCx stowed in a case attached to the breast collar that works quite well, too. The high sensitivity receiver is what you're looking for (which the Legend HCx, the 60CSx and the Forerunner 205/305 all have in common).

I wouldn't put the 305 in a cantle bag, though. Too much risk of the start/stop and lap buttons on the face being pressed accidentally. The 305 doesn't record track points unless the timer is started. The Legend HCx and the 60CSx both start recording the second you turn the unit on and record until you turn it off. The 305 is made to wear on your wrist so you can have instant feedback.

If you're looking for a basic, basic unit, Garmin has an eTrex H that has a high sensitivity receiver for around $100. It doesn't have any of the training features of the 305 or the mapping capabilities of the 60CSx and the Legend HCx. It also uses a serial connection instead of a USB connection. Why on earth they didn't upgrade that when they added the high sensitivity receiver, I have no idea. But it will record track points and is safe to put into a cantle bag if that's all you're looking for.

Would a 305 do the same?
