This is so true about vets- one of my mare's colts was born with what
my vet called "contracted tendons" in both front legs; he was walking around
with both knees very bent.He wanted to lay down more than usual for a new
foal. My vet told me to wrap both front cannon bones and keep him in a
stall! (If they didn't straighten out he would need the surgery where they
cut the tendon? or Ligament? is what the vet said. He was lameness
specialist vet too.) Which I did NOT do after consulting with my natural
trimmer-he said just the opposite- leave him turned out, get him to move as much
as possible by leading the mare around; DON'T wrap. The colt was all
straightened out within about a week. He's almost 6 now and my natural
trimmer says he has the best feet of all the horses he trims. I think he would
have become club footed if I'd done what my vet said to do.
