[RC] meeting criteria - Michael Maul

In response to:"I thought a) the aerc rules referred to vet control points and b) the vet manual describes gate into hold with the concept of an vet exam?? (thus AERC does refer to being evaluated fit to continue at holds)"

Perhaps I was not clear in the earlier post. Of course the equine has to be Fit to continue *out* of the hold. Once the pulse requirement is met within 30 minutes of arrival, the horse does not have a set time to finish the vet exam other than before it goes back out on the trail.

In some multiday rides - the rest of the vet exam is done on the way out of the hold. I personally like to do my complete check as soon as we get to the hold but some vets will not do the rest of the check until you have been in the hold for at least 30 minutes.

Their feeling is that evaluating the horse after 30 minutes gives them a better view of how the horse is really doing.

This is a significant difference in what I understand the FEI requirement is on how soon a horse has to have the complete check done independent of when the horse actually leaves the check.

Mike
