And don't forget to plot in the land mines. Northwest Egypt and northeast Libya are probably one of the more heavily mined areas in the world. Lot of it is old WWII junk and wildly unstable. 

Hint: stay on the road.

ps. the logistics of this ride would be a real monster. Where ever you start, unless you bring your feed with you, it will be changing wildly as you travel. You will have to travel in the fall, I'd say, to avoid spring sandstorms and you have to stay pretty close to the coast to assure yourself of water. But there's no food at all on the trail. Sahara Desert means "Desert Desert" or desert squared. NOTHING there but sand.

I propose a little geo lesson. Now that a few more of you have google
earth at hand, how about we plot a course across North Africa?

Would you ride east, say starting in Morocco, or west starting in Egypt?

We can plot the path on google earth:)
