Re: [RC] bin Ladens son wants to put on an Endurance Ride across Africa - Mike Lewis
True--the problem is much too big to be helped by
an endurance ride. Now, if Omar would pay all my entry fees for the next
50 years, buy me a new truck and trailer every 7 years, talk my bosses
into giving me Fridays off, ensure I had the fastest and most
even-tempered horses for the next 50 years, and that our crew were
perfect in every way then I might consider his idea...

Omar doesn't criticize his father and says Osama bin Laden is just trying
to defend the Islamic world.
"My father thinks he will be good for defending the Arab people and stop
anyone from hurting the Arab or Muslim people any place in the world," he
said, noting that the West didn't have a problem with his father when he was
fighting the Russians in Afghanistan in the 1980s.
Above is a quote from the article. Did America
have a problem with the Islamic world before the World Trade Center was
bombed? I always thought that most Americans are "live and let live"
about other people's religions and cultures. Maybe I'm naive about
that.
It's very difficult to trust when we have been attacked
on our own soil, but then again, I think we have done a pretty lousy thing by
attacking Iraq. At least it's not a very productive and conclusive war
for us...just very costly and damaging. If we suspected bin Laden was
the instigator of the WTC attacks, and he is thought to be in Pakistan or
Afghanistan, then what are we doing in Iraq? And why do we think we can
convert other countries to our ideal of democracy? It just
doesn't work for everyone.
I find it all very troubling. I'm not sure I can
imagine how an endurance ride will be of much help.
