I know it's hard for RMs to find volunteers, but
when they're available, perhaps one or two could be roving observers. We have
them at A-level orienteering meets, and it might help to prevent people from
shortcutting the course and vet procedures.
You're supposed to vet in as soon as you arrive at
the checkpoint, right? But at Las Cruces one horse that came in soaking wet on
that very cold day was led to the crew area and administered to for at least 10
minutes before someone walked over to see what was going on, having heard from
another rider (it sounded like) that she was in the crewing area. I don't know
if they were allowed to continue or not.
