RE: [RC] [RC] [RC] LD and Placings - Sharon LevasseurI could care less about tangible awards or recognition, per se, but if LD's aren't considered "endurance" but training towards endurance, why are LD riders charged the same AERC fees? AERC just provides insurance and tracks mileage/points for the rides. They don't provide financial backing for the managers, nor do they have any input into what the ride fees are. As a former ride manager who quit because both years I held it I lost over $1,000 out of my own pocket, I can tell you I **couldn't** have charged LD entrants any less than I did. I priced it $20 lower, as I recall, and only as a courtesy gesture. It costs just as much to mark the trail for, and provide dinner for, the LD riders as it does the endurance riders. And, as much as YOU may not care about what award you receive at dinner, most LD riders do and RMs would definitely hear about it later if they didn't provide any LD awards, even if they then charged less. Heck, riders whine to the RM about the craziest things (the weather, for instance) so I'm not about to stick my neck out by not providing LD awards. That would be fodder for the second-class citizen debate, for sure! -Sharon L. in Maine Former Manager of the Hot Toddy Hustle Quoting "Kitley, Carrie E Civ USAF AFSPC 30 MDSS/SGSLF" <carrie.kitley@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>: I could care less about tangible awards or recognition, per se, but if LD's aren't considered "endurance" but training towards endurance, why are LD riders charged the same AERC fees? I certainly don't mind paying for the cause or trail maintenance, ride vets, dinner, etc. At least here in PS region, LD-ers pay the same as everyone else. We continue to ride because we love it, it's a great opportunity to ride in new areas, camp with our horses, etc. but it would be nice to gain some points or at least have our LD mileages count towards the grand total of lifetime "endurance" miles. So maybe . . . charge the LD rides as just that, "training rides" and charge 1/2 the fee? If we have to pay the same fee as those doing "endurance," then we should at least reap SOME benefit for the effort. We may never be able to do 50's, but if we do, then great!! We were able to participate in a great organization while getting our training rides in. Just some thoughts.
