RE: [RC] [RC] LD and Placings - Kitley, Carrie E Civ USAF AFSPC 30 MDSS/SGSLF

I could care less about tangible awards or recognition, per se, but if
LD's aren't considered "endurance" but training towards endurance, why
are LD riders charged the same AERC fees? I certainly don't mind paying
for the cause or trail maintenance, ride vets, dinner, etc. At least
here in PS region, LD-ers pay the same as everyone else. We continue to
ride because we love it, it's a great opportunity to ride in new areas,
camp with our horses, etc. but it would be nice to gain some points or
at least have our LD mileages count towards the grand total of lifetime
"endurance" miles. So maybe . . . charge the LD rides as just that,
"training rides" and charge 1/2 the fee? If we have to pay the same fee
as those doing "endurance," then we should at least reap SOME benefit
for the effort. We may never be able to do 50's, but if we do, then
great!! We were able to participate in a great organization while
getting our training rides in. Just some thoughts.

I believe L7 is supposed (somebody jump in and correct me if I'm
wrong) to be saying that points are not recorded for LD, as they are for
50's and 100's. The wording is pretty confusing, though, and could
stand some rewriting.

Personally, I would not want to go to a ride where I was
planning on riding LD, and would not get any recognition other than
mileage. Some folks may consider that distance as "just training", but
for a (growing) portion of the AERC membership - people are getting
older, and some folks just aren't up to riding 50 miles, but still want
to be part of the AERC community. I see no reason to attend a ride
where I would automatically be classified as "second class".
