[RC] Out of State Entries at Tevis - shermanI let my horse rest 3 weeks before Tevis last year, with only a couple 7-10 mile easy jog/trot rides to keep him loosened up. This year has been a forced 4 week rest, with our last 18 mile ride the day the fires started, and so far only 2 short loosen up rides when the smoke lifted. I'm hoping the extra rest will benefit, rather than hinder. Since Fellow is ready, he'll do fine with just a couple short loosen up rides, right? Hopefully the smoke will lift and give us the opportunity to do that with our horses, even if it is as late as the weekend before Tevis. Kathy Ranelle wrote: I think you have a good idea of what is going on for a lot of us. I do have a horse ready for Tevis. I was planning on deciding for sure after his last 50 at Mt. Diablo which he finished with 11 A's/3B's despite 104 degrees and very little shade. I gave him his week off, then did a couple moderate rides in the altitude up- in Tahoe to get out of our smoke here in Auburn. He is so very ready. It is almost a sin not to ride him on Tevis. I had planned to do our "tune up/last big ride" today. There is no way I would let him get his respiration up in this air. Maybe if we get some clearing in the next few days??? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
