Re-sending, as it appears it did not come through the first time.

6K was certainly used during the Applegate-Lassen rides of the past. We rode on the same road as the vehicles drove from point to point on certain days. The crews would stop every 5 miles or so to supply horses and riders with water. It was essential, as there was no water available on the trail in those cases. On a couple of years, the crews were critical, as it was so HOT that we were in threat of losing a rider from heatstroke.
We all know that our rides do not send crews in vehicles down every road in every ride. But in the case of A-L, it was not only unavoidable, but essential to horse and rider safety. I believe 6K simply allows crew support by vehicle in the rare case.
I was on the Board when this was made a rule, because in one Midwest ride, the crew in a vehicle actually hazed a tiring horse to the finish line.

I can't imagine why they (the FEI) would do such a thing ... crew vehicles should be used only to get the crew to the vet check, and NEVER allowed on course except in an emergency. Truly a bad rule.

While I agree the rule is bad and FEI style Endurance is an abomination, let's not tar them with brushes that belong to AERC, ie, our own Rule 6k:

6k. ...A crew may accompany their rider down a public road
in a support vehicle (unless there is a ride management
prohibition against it) provided they do not push or haze
the equine.
