Re: [RC] My Helmet Lesson - Barbara Moultonmy helmet lesson was when I bought an untouchable mustang when I was just recovering from an illness and my daughters 17 and 19 totally freaked out so I said no problem I'll buy a helmet- I saw what a real equestrian brain bucket cost and went cheap and bought a used bike helmet at the thrift store for 2 bucks- it wasn't the "wild"mustang that got me, it was the "anybody can ride" old Leggs. I was on bareback going out into the big pasture to catch my filly-when the loose horses started running so did 16.3 Leggs who was never ridden anymore or trimmed and tripped over his own feet. My plan was just to walk of course. I slammed head first unto the rock hard clay/dirt and broke el cheapo into four pieces but didn't hurt my head or neck- just had a huge sprained ankle- and I bought a real helmet before I got on the next time- I kept the broken one as a reminder till the bike safety ladies came to the school I taught at and I ran home to get it for them to use for a visual aid and I gave it to them after they asked for it- now it travels all around Idaho.
