[RC] To finish is to win ? (was: Dubai to host...) - k s swigartIn the UAE press release it says: 26 riders from all over the world have been invited for the Dh4 million ride with Omega as the title sponsor. ... The 1.5 million cash prize will be distributed among the top 25 riders... It would appear that all you have to do to be "in the money" is to finish and not be dead last if everybody finishes. It will be interesting to see if this type of incentive to finish has any effect on the completion rate, or if, for most of the participants, the amount of the prize money is sufficiently insignificant (if my math is correct, then the amount of the first prize of Dh250,000 comes out to ~$96,000 assuming the "1.5 million cash prize" stated above is Dh4 million converted to dollars, but I could be wrong, it might be converted to Euros, UK pounds or who knows what else????) that the prize money itself is irrelevant, and the desire to finish in first place just to get bragging rights is more motivating such that the cash prize for finishing 25th of 26th is not a motivator at all. As I said, it will be interesting to see.... kat Orange County, Calif. p.s. I also find this interesting: Entertainment for the family on the sidelines includes bouncy castles, clowns, stilt walkers, clowns, henna faces painters and a jazz band. For those who were wondering if you could get spectators to come watch horses go around a one mile flat track oval 100 times, this would be a way to perhaps get them to do so that doesn't involve any alcohol. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
