[RC] FEI racing - k s swigartSteph Teeter said: Will it change FEI Endurance much?? who knows! It's still a race - but somehow RACING the Tevis or OD or Florac seems more 'grass roots' than RACING a primarily flat course with vehicle assistance... I'll be honest with you. Just the idea of holding an FEI endurance RACE on a course like the Tevis course gives me the willies. Tevis is hard enough as it is with 90% of the participants just wanting to finish the thing. If you had 100+ people entered in a course like Tevis all of whom were racing for first place, it would be a nightmare. You cannot have a race on a course where the safe places to pass are few and far between. Although, to be honest, I am rapidly coming to the opinion that it is impossible to race horses "safely" over ANY 100 mile course if all the participants are in the race. The only reason AERC endurance works at all is that the outcome of any one ride is virtually irrelevant, there is great incentive to "live to fight another day," and hardly anybody is in the "race" anyway. If you win at Tevis, despite the fact that there are 200+ teams entered in the ride, you have only beaten about 10 teams because that's about all that are in the race (if even that many). kat Orange County, Calif. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
