RE: [RC] Beet Pulp Shortage? - Bob MorrisOne must remember, the harvest of beets starts with cold weather in October. They do not get into full production of sugar (a by-product of beet pulp) until November, Then they start to get some pulp for sale. A great amount is shipped out of country for a much better price. So, there is a lag between last years supply and this years just coming on market supply. I remember this happening last year also. I would expect some or it be from the droughts in some areas last summer cut the hay production. Also unlike 10 years ago, many commercial mills are formulating their feed with significant percentages of beet pulp. That may also be playing into the shortage.
