I dispatch for the local PD ... we routinely tell folks the dogs are fine, 
there is no violation -- *unless*  it extremly hot out (90'+)..  Officers don't 
respond for this, they have better things to do ....

Danny Herlong had the same thing happen to him. He told the cop, "If I
let anything happen to that dog  *you* wouldn't have to worry about
punishing me. My wife and parents would have me killed!" I'm sure the 
cops thought the same thing as far as, "How's about letting us focus on
the *real* problems" Heck, after killing a day watching CNN and a weekend
in the airport looking at people discussing and reading magazines about
whether Brittany Spears is a fit mom since she almost dropped her child
once and drove with it in her lap, I'm thinking, "You guys go down to the
courtroom and look at the judges returning babies with cigarette burns
and scalded to their crack head moms and tell me how dangerous this star
is. You just want to get your picture on TV when you discuss it!  Somehow
I think the folks on this list are a bit more realistic.
