[RC] hard keeper - Sheila_Larsen

I have had good luck with the Purina Ultium too, but for an elderly horse I
might up the senior feed (I like Purina best for the senior feed seems a
little softer). I would up the alfalfa too, someone said that the protein
is hard on the kidneys but I think that is a wive's tale, it just makes
them pee more and the urine is smellier and a waste of money if you over do
it because they are expelling the protein. I bet if you go back into the
archives and look for Susan Garlinghouse she commented on that once upon a
time. I would up the beet pulp too if you are feeding it even if you up
the senior feed. Get teeth checked to to make sure the back teeth are
meeting and there are no sharp points. The only way to get those back
teeth down is with power tools (at least that is what a vet told me).

A lovely horse is always an experience.... It is an emotional experience of
the kind that is spoiled by words. ~Beryl Markham
