[RC] Hard Keeper - Bruce WearyHi Mike--I might suggest that you put your horse on a digestive aid like Fastrack or Probios. These will help his gut flora which in turn help him to get more out of the hay he is eating. If you are seeing ribs and hip bones more prominently, he may be losing muscle mass, which is harder for aging horses to maintain. He may need some amino acid supplementation, including threonine and lysine, along with exercise to maintain his body condition, in addition to adequate calories. Check out this study: http://jas.fass.org/cgi/content/full/83/12/2783 Of course checking his teeth and treating for parasites might help, too.
