[RC] Scottdsale, etc. - k s swigartDebbie in MN said: Thanks for the report... I keep saying, the TWH's are not the only breed with shows that mistreat the horse... I just wish I knew what could be done about it to change People... They simply do not see or care what they do to horses for the sake of MONEY oh and a Ribbon... Be very careful what you wish for. There are a great many people who would say that asking a horse to go 25, 50, or 100 miles at once is "mistreatment" all for the sake of....a T-shirt. Remember that what the general public and the international horse community saw at Aachen (in Steph's words) was a bunch of tired and lame horses...and people who do not see or care what they are doing to horses for the sake of a prize in their sport of choice. Nobody believes that THEIR sport of choice is abusive. It is only outsiders who might think so. As for the 13 year old who didn't look like she was having fun? Well, that is probably because she wasn't winning, and for virtually everybody (and especially competitive people, and if they aren't competitive, why go to a competition) winning is more fun. But there aren't very many winners at Scottsdale (in comparison to the number of participants). One of the nice things about the AERC, its motto of "to finish is to win" makes it so that, on any given day, EVERY participant can win. You only have to beat the trail, not all the other participants. And if the trail is a true challenge, then that victory is meaningful, even if you are not alone. kat Orange County, Calif. :) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
