[RC] snakes on the trail - Jennifer Adamwhat is a horses general reaction to snakes?Hi- I live on a large farm in MO and since I often ride through the grass roadways and along the fencerows, I come across snakes fairly frequently. None of my horses has ever acted upset by them. They might tense up at the slithering sound but then relax when they see it's just a snake. For the most part they ignore them, but one of my mares will stomp them *only if* they cross right in front of us. She doesn't make a huge dramatic deal out of it, either - just flexes her neck and stamps her front feet down hard one at a time on the snake. She's done it twice to little green snakes that weren't quite fast enough. Most snakes hear us coming and get out of our way. :) But spiders - urgh. I don't like them either. I almost threw myself sideways out of my saddle when we rode between two branches that had a *huge* web with this giant yellow and black orb spider in the middle.
