 I think I would be okay with a "vet score only" Best Condition award. 
At first glance, it seems that the lighter weight riders who want to 
compete for BC currently may feel compelled to ride a little faster than 
they would like or need to, in order to finish fast enough to offset the 
points advantage given to a heavyweight that is following behind. In 
addition, as a heavyweight, I would feel less pressure to ride fast 
enough to be within striking distance of the lead horses where my 
"weight points" might still do me some good. I could relax, cruise in 
the bottom of the top ten, and see if my horse shows as well as horses 
that finished faster but with lighter riders. If there is truly a level 
playing field in BC judging at the finish line under these 
circumstances, heavyweights might actually have an equal or better shot 
at a BC because their horse could take more time on the trail with no 
real scoring penalty.
 I think the idea has promise and is at least worthy of further 
discussion.   Dr Q
