[RC] President's Cup - k s swigartSteph said: Out of the starting field of 54 riders, only 17 met the highest veterinary standards to complete the course. The USA ridden horses were well off of the winning pace of 3:47:22 If I am understanding this correctly (i.e. the winning time), then this was a 50 mile ride, and the completion rate was about 30%. Given this, it is a good indication that shortening the distance of the World Championship is unlikely to have any effect on its completion rate or the perception of the event to the general public. The FEI can now pretty safely dismiss the idea that it is the 100 mile distance that leads to the poor performance of competitors at the World Championship and look elsewhere for an understanding. The USA ridden horses were well off of the winning pace of 3:47:22, but they finished in a respectable time, in good health and with bright attitudes, and this itself is a wonderful accomplishment - reflecting the wise race strategy set by the Chef d'Equipe. Rather, since this suggests that a 75% completion rate can be accomplished by changing the strategy of the participants, the FEI should, instead, see what it can do to motivate a change in the strategy of riders of the World Championship events. The problem at the World Championship is with the attitudes of the riders, not the length or difficulty of the course. kat Orange County, Calif. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
