Re: [RC] Shoeing question - experiences with clips and hot fitting - rides2far@xxxxxxxxI used clips for a long time with Kaboot. I liked them because it took some stress off the nails and the foot would stay looking better. My farrier used fairly small nails since Kaboot's feet grow slow and the holes would get close together. During that time he sometimes wore out the shoe and the nail heads get really ground down. The clips probably helped keep the shoes on when those nail heads were sheared off too. Now some say they don't like them..something about affecting the way the shoe fits with growth maybe?? but that didn't seem like a big deal if you were on a set schedule and didn't let them grow out. However, since they cost more anyway and Gunner doesn't have Kaboot's issues of slow growth and a bit of a "slide" when the feet hit the ground I'm not using them. I've had hot and cold shoeing. Don't really have a preference. Seems to help the farrier's arm to work hot steel, but I do cringe when they put that shoe on there to level the foot. :-P Angie McGhee =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
