RE: [RC] [RC] [RC] Tevis Trail Construction - Wendell RobieTraining Hill - Ranelle Rubin - Lucy Chaplin TrumbullKathy:The section of trail that I saw them working on yesterday (got one more ride in before the rain!) did not include Training Hill, but it was on the easier trail that runs sort of parallel to Hwy 49. Oh, OK. I know where you mean. When Tom said "Pointed Rocks down to No-Hands", I figured he meant the training hill. But from what you say, I assume he's talking about the trail that starts in the meadow before you go as far as Pointed Rocks? Did it look like they were working on the trail at the very bottom of the training hill, before you make the switchback down onto the bridge? Are they going to extend their work area to Training Hill also? I can?t imagine that they?d be able to use their grading machines on such a steep grade. I did wonder about that (visions of the trail cutter careening down the hill - kind of like what I look like when I attempt to mow at home. <g>) Ranelle: I have been told that the Training Hill will not be included in the upgrades to the trails as it does not meet the standards set due to the steepness. The trails that are being worked on are the "Pig Farm" trail and the "Cut off Trail". Both of these are in the Auburn State Recreation area, but neither of them are on the Tevis Trail. and that isn't where Kathy mentions - although they are off-shoots of those trails. How confusing. The trail Kathy mentions is used by the WST 100 Run and really could benefit from some dirt moving. We've gone down there in the past and sawed through loop-shaped roots that were just waiting for a horse to stick its foot in there. The WSTF did the brush work on these two trails two weeks ago, and the Parks Dept is doing the dirt work. excellent. That's great.
