When a reason, or assumed reason is found the behavior is then excused. This is not right! All bad behavior, by people, children, horses, dogs, etc. should have negative consequences. Anything else reinforces the bad behavior. Reinforced behavior tends to be REPEATED. Repeated behavior becomes a habit, and the situation escalates. In other words, when my horse shows aggression to another horse, even if it is slight, he gets a correction. I may analyze the situation later to figure out why the aggression happened, and thus improve the effectiveness of my training, but the correction is quick, certain and consistent.
