I, too, thought a paintball would get the message across to the owner that I could "kill" the dog if I wanted to, in addition to keeping the dog away. My newest horse knows the difference in the demeanor of our various dogs that come running out to bark at us. The one he is afraid of will back off when you face him, but as soon as you turn to go on he is after us again. Other that backing all the way down the street away from this dog, I think a good splat with a paintball might just do the trick! Like I said, better than the .38 that the deputy told me to use.
