RE: [RC] Riding and Age - Ranelle Rubin

Dolly, I remember standing in line to vet in on my very first endurance ride in 1989. You were there right in front of me with Amadeus. I was impressed that this small, unassuming looking little lady was handling a stallion, and doing so with strength and grace.

I figured that day, that if you could ride a stallion, I could ride a gelding..:)

Just saw this subject so can't help but comment, In a few weeks I will be
72, Love to ride as much as I ever did but certainly not with the same skills
I have back with many issues not the least a lot of arthritis there. Things I
use to do with ease are not not so easy. I too ride alone 99.9 % of the time
and like many others if I didn't I would not get to ride if it was depended on
company. Because I ride alone Ride start for my 7 yr old Stallion who is very Sweet
but at 6:00 Am with over 100 horses it can be very exciting to say the least,it has
been a most humbling experience for me for in order to saveothers neck and mine
I have had to resort to starting last and waling several miles on foot till I figure it is Safe
to get on,  Hate to give away those free breeding's and get HUNG and ridecamp to boot.
It takes at least half hour in saddle or longer to my back to loosen up where I have any freedom
of movement seems my whole left side is numb till than. But can't even imagine giving
up riding in fact I feel if I did not ride It would be much worse, I remember Virl Norton
riding with such bad arthritis in his hands he had reins just rapped around his gnarled fingers
He always said the worst thing would be for me to rest away in my old Rockin chair, much better
to go with your boots on no matter where it is, Hope i can keep goin like Julie, She gives a great
talk on having right horse with the 3 S'S. SHORT, SANE, SAFE. But don't have one of those yet.
And As Cliff Lewis says " LETS SADDLE UP AND RIDE"
