Re: [RC] re: age per miles - Truman PrevattThere are some professional athletics that are still close to the top of their game in the late 30's and early 40's. Jeff Garcia the Tampa Bay Bucs QB is over 40. Barry Bonds in his 40's would have been great even without drugs - too bad he got a case of stupid. Nolan Ryan pitched to several sons of fathers he had pitched to, Ken Griffie/Ken Griffie Jr., Bobby Bonds/Barry Bonds, etc. He was over 40 when he pitched his last no hitter. With better nutrition, better medical care and better training methods athletics can last into their late 30 and early 40's. An there there was Satchel Page. He was born in 1906 and retired from professional baseball in 1965 and played in the Major League All-Star Game in 1952 and 1953 - you do the math ;-) . What seems to go first is raw speed, but strength and endurance tend to last into middle age and beyond. What seems to be killing me is the older I get the more injury prone I get and the longer it takes to heal. Truman Barbara McCrary wrote: Oh, NOOOOOO! At 40, I was the strongest I have ever been. At 40, I could out-hike and out-backpack my 19 and 17 year old daughters. My mother used to tell me she never got her full strength until she was 40. I was still pretty strong at backpacking at 59. -- “It doesn't matter how beautiful your theory is, it doesn't matter how smart you are.
