RE: [RC] Malaysia WEC2008 - qualifications criterias - Leonard.Liesens
1. fluids IV : sure it is. Otherwise if riders are
allowed to run the horse into the ground and then leave it to the responsability
of the treatment vet for saving his life, where is the sport
?
2. good question... again the formulation is vague. FEI
should hire a good lawyer
3. AERC national rides are like our national rides;
they just have another acronym. The funniest is that the FEI didn't tell from
WHAT DISTANCE they need a reporting of metabolic cases. A 40km qualification
rides coulf for example count as a national ride.
4. True. Selection process will have to be different,
not only in the US but everywhere. Once a rider/horse gets his COC, they should
better stay at home.
Patagonia ??? you have been there ? without telling
me! Ba....

Malaysia WEC2008 - qualifications criterias
I have wondered about this since they put it in place. Two
questions come to mind:
1) is giving fluids following a metabolic pull "invasive treatment" if
given intra-venously?
2) what is the "time window" for the metabolic treatments restriction.
The horse is already eliminated, so the 2 hour restriction does not
apply.
The other difficulty, in the US at least, is that there are no "National"
rides (i.e. CEN rides), they are all AERC - do these count??
The effect of this on the US is, IMO:), that our selection process needs
adjustment so that we do not put riders/horses at risk of loosing their CoCs
in order to make the team ....

(p.s. if you haven't seen the Patagonia images .... what can I
say!!
It seems
that FEI has sent a note to the National Federations asking for reporting of
all eliminations for metabolic reasons. A copy of the letter can be found
here for your information.
