RE: [RC] Grays - heidiI was given a 1949 Arabian stud book and I noticed that in most cases it listed the grays as Ch/G or B/G. I'm assuming this means they were born chestnut or bay and then grayed. Some were just listed as G. Are any grays actually born gray, or are they all born another color and turn gray? They all have a basic coat color other than grey, and most are born that color and "turn"--but some are more obviously grey than others at birth. In the earlier days of the Registry, breeders were allowed to "hedge their bets" and put down both colors, if they weren't sure the foal was going to turn grey--so yes, the Ch or B does indicate the birth color in those cases.
