[RC] Real Endurance (was: 25 v 50) - k s swigartDavid LeBlanc said: I'm saying that the difference between going 25 and 50 is so minimal that it isn't worth drawing a distinction over, I absolutely agree with this statement, and the ride results have a tendency to bear it out (completion rates for 25 mile rides and 50 mile rides are essentially identical). If you look at the completion rate for 75 milers, it really isn't all that much different than for 25s and 50s. There is a dramatic drop off between 75 & 100. This is why _I_ think "endurance ride" should be defined as 100 miles and anything shorter than that is an LD. I will agree, as Kim Fuess said, 25 mile rides are easier logistically speaking (so to go out and do a 25 mile training ride requires no pre-planning); however, if you have pre-planned properly (i.e. got food and water where you need it), a 50 mile training ride is no more difficult for the horse than a 25 miler. However, this has nothing to do with measure of difficulty of the accomplishment of the horse but more a measure of difficulty of accomplishment for the planning ability of the ride manager. kat Orange County, Calif. :) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
