Clearly I haven't been reading the same posts some of you have
been reading.

At most one person suggested getting rid of LDs, and that
rather fascetiously.

Nobody called LD'ers Trail Trash.  *One* person said that
she had been told *at a ride* that LDers were known as
Trail Trash.

Nobody ever suggested changing the current LD division
to require a minimum ride time.  The suggestion is to
*add* a "Novice LD" division which has a minimum ride time.

Some people encouraged LDers to reevaluate the limitations
that they see to going longer, as perhaps they are not as
real as might be seemed.  This does not constitute an
insult to LD riders any more than encouraging people to
have a second piece of pie is insulting them for having
eaten one piece of pie.

This reminds me of trying to get through to a politican.  They've
all heard so many people so long with the same complaints that
they have unconsciously come up with a mental list of "The
Five Things People Say To Me," immediately followed by
"My Five Stock Answers."  Heaven help you if you try to
discuss a Sixth Subject not on their mental list.  The first
word out of your mouth that bears even the slightest
resemblance to one of The Five Things People Say to
him, and their brain shuts off, they stop listening to you,
and their mouth goes on autopilot reciting the appropriate
one of the Five Stock Answers--no matter how irrelevant
it is to the point you're trying to make.
