Re: [RC] [RC] Rule Change Proposal, questions - Maryanne GabbaniMaybe there needs to be an apprenticeship program with The Duck.... that would solve a lot of problems. I believe a lot of them are multi-days, which probably discourages novice riders in the first place. A multi-day format, all by itself, is going to encourage people to ride more conservatively, or they aren't going to have a horse for the rest of the ride meet. Besides - I get the feeling that the Duck would have no problem drop-kicking a 'problem rider' out of his ride... I feel sorry for their mounts, but I for one don't want more rules, restrictions etc. Take a look at the Ducks rules and check out the treatment rate at his rides. As far as LD goes (most of my rides are LD's so that I can crew for my wife at longer distances) I don't think they should be considered a race and therefore no BC is necessary. I also disagree with any rule that puts in a minimum time for LD's. One of these days my mount may just feel like sailing over the trail and I can see no reason to have to slow her down just because some people have over ridden their horses. I also disagree with lowering the HR for LD's-the present system works. My wife and I left CTR because of all the rules, please don't shut down this venue for us. One other comment- all of you who think "one more piece of paper or one more thing for the ride manager to check" is no big thing- put on a ride or two and see how much more work you are willing to take on.
