[RC] The LD riders I've known - heidi larson

Actually these are LD riders I've personally introduced
into the sport/circle of endurance.

Melissa Lindstrom - joined AERC last summer.  She did her
first LD in 2005 and has completed 5 rides on two different
horses.  Never even close to top tenning, just out to horse
camp, meet new horse people and have fun.

Katelyn Lindstrom (JR) - joined AERC last summer.  Has
completed 3 rides since 2006, (top tenning only because
she's a junior) and has one BC.  

Diana Seager - has completed one 30 mile ride on her QH
mare, finished with "some" time to spare.  Has Fibromyalgia
and sobbed like a baby when her ride was over.  She just
never knew her little mare could do such an awesome thing! 
She loved meeting us crazy endurance riders and is in awe
of anyone riding more than she did that day.  

Autumn Larson (my JR stepdaughter) has completed 4 LD rides
and pulled her horse on one LD when he overreached and
clipped himself.  The vet didn't pull her horse, she did. 
She knew it would make his wound sore to continue and
didn't want to risk him. She was 12 years old.

I've ridden LD, quite a few times, seen some racing there
but see it mostly in the 50's to be perfectly honest. (And
I'm not saying I see racing with unfit horses, very rarely
actually.) I ride my horse's speed, sometimes it's fast,
sometimes not, depends on our moods, the day, his fitness
level, etc.  New people might not have the knowledge to
pick up on those things without our help, whether they are
riding LD or Endurance. We should offer to help when we can
and bring in new riders that "we've" already "started". We
take alot of time with our green horses, we need to take
alot of time with our greener riders!  I know I appreciated
it when I first started.
