What happens when you have 50-60 riders in the
LD? It take at least 3-5 minutes minimum for a BC Vet Exam, at three
minutes each and 50 riders that would be 2 1/2 hours!!!! If it takes 5
minutes that would be over four hours (assuming my math brain works at this our
of the day). You have to draw a line in the sand somewhere, and say these
are in and these are out.

Top 10 vet scores? Placing used only as a tie breaker?
Oh well - it is a whole 'nother issue.

Any time BC is based on the top 10 in any way,
you are encouraging speed, which may, or may not, be in excess of what the

horses for which LD was created...the young, the old, and the
recovered-from-injury horses.
BTW - If people are worried about LDs being "races", then change the
top 10 / BC award for an LD. There could be two awards:
highest vet score, and make the "top 10" a different score:
overall vet score + placing points based on order of finish.
BC would then add the BC exam to the "top 10" horses, and BC would
be the top score in that.
