Re: [RC] [Merri Travels] Owyhee Riding Spa - Steph TeeterThis year has been drier than usual here - July was the hottest month on record, and August was the driest month on record - and it really shows. The vegetation looked stunted and scorched this year. It's always brown in summer and fall, but this year it had a scorched look to it. The springtime can be beautiful in the high desert - with grass and wildflowers, but this year even springtime was dry and dusty, hardly any flowers at all. The beauty of this country is in the openness - vast vistas and wide open space. Also the creeks and rivers and canyons are little oases - and can be stunningly beautiful. Above 4000 feet we get into juniper trees, and spruce, mountain mahogany, aspen, doug fir at the higher elevations. I grew up in Virginia and John and I lived in Massachusetts for 7 years. Sometimes I miss the green and the smell of damp vegetation - but given the choice, the desert dryness and sunshine is the sure winner!I leave tomorrow for Malaysia - where I do love the heat and humidity (I'm a warm weather person :) and my skin will re-hydrate and soften and my hair will curl and the sun is hot and the rain is warm. And Merri is looking forward to a cold winter in Oreana! Steph On Oct 23, 2007, at 12:05 PM, Bob Morris wrote: When you live in the Owyhee Desert you remove the color green from the spectrum.
