Re: [RC] [Merri Travels] Owyhee Riding Spa - Barbara McCrary
And I'll bet the ranchers' barbed wire and cattle
squeezes, and the riders' trailers don't rust into oblivion like they do on
the central coast of California (from the salt spray in the air.) We
usually have enough rain to green up the grass, as it is now. We've
already had nearly 2" out of a normal 32" a year, and the grass is growing like
gangbusters. However, if it doesn't rain again soon, we'll be in trouble
again.
I love high desert country...there is no fog like there
is on the coast, and it's warm enough in the summer to have a BBQ
outdoors. Downside: hot in summer, cold in winter. But there
is a huge charm about the high desert. That would be my second choice of a
place to live, if I weren't so deeply rooted here.
When you live in the
OwyheeDesert you remove the color
green from the spectrum. But then, cattle and horses thrive on what is there.
This is not merry old
England nor the
Eastern
USA. And our tack does
not get moldy and we can bale our hay the same day it is cut.

Does it ever green up in Owyhee
country? This looks so bleakly gray...
