Indeed, success requires three major ingredients--one being innate ability (read that as genetics), one being environment (which incidentally begins at conception), and one being training/riding. Most folks who analyze performance figure that each is roughly a third of the equation. Losing in any one of those thirds will keep a horse from the top of the game.
