I disagree. You've pointed out that dispositions can go to pot when the sole breeding criterion is speed--in addition, so can many other aspects necessary for other types of performance, including hoof wall structure, bone integrity, agility, gaits other than the flat-out run, etc. They do tend to maintain good body balance, since that is necessary to have the speed. Yes, SOME do cross over just fine--there is always some overlap. And some families are better at crossing over than others--precisely because those families have not lost the other necessary traits in the bargain.
