BTW, as an observation, there are plenty of people who ride both AERC and NATRC, and the horses do "cross-over" quite easily. Typical NATRC "open" speed, for example, translates to a completion on time in endurance.
Yes, they're different sports, but they're both distance sports and have much in common - foremost, is the care of the horse and education of the rider. Second, in my mind, is the need to keep our trails and public lands open and available for riding. I never like to feel I have to defend one sport over the other. Each has its good and bad points, and can learn from each other, and support one another.
Just my opinion, of course.
